This is outrageous

The Chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting - who just happens to be a dedicated, totally ideological Republican - claims that he want to get rid of what HE views as "bias" on PBS. And what he means (of course) is that he wants it to reflect HIS bias.

And who is he pushing to be the HEAD of PBS to accomplish this? The former head of the Republican National Committee.

That is so totally brazen and cynical that it takes the breath away.

If you want to see the very definition of "Orwellian" look at these successive sentences:

And while a search firm has been retained to find a successor for Kathleen A. Cox, the corporation's president and chief executive, whose contract was not renewed last month, Mr. Tomlinson has made clear to the board that his choice is Patricia Harrison, a former co-chairwoman of the Republican National Committee who is now an assistant secretary of state.

Mr. Tomlinson said that he was striving for balance and had no desire to impose a political point of view on programming.

I can't even find words for this. Appointing the head of a political party to determine ideological content, and claiming that your goal is not partisan? With a straight face? What fucking gall.

It's an attempt to turn public broadcasting into Bush's own version of Pravda.

The Republicans DESPERATELY want NO alternative points of view to be heard ANYWHERE.
