How many sides do you have on that mouth?

By way of Josh Marshall:

In a briefing on Thursday, Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had said that the senior commander in Afghanistan believed the protests had stemmed from that country's reconciliation process.

"He thought it was not at all tied to the article in the magazine," General Myers said.

But now, the same people say that it is ENTIRELY caused by the article in the magazine.

The White House is using the Newsweek issue as a wedge to start censoring the press, and a club to beat the press into submission.

They don't actually give a crap about the 16 dead or the protests, anymore than they actually gave a crap about the damage our reputation suffered at Abu Ghraib.

To some degree, it's Newsweek's own fault for giving them ammunition, but make no mistake about it: this is being used for pure propanganda purposes by people who believe that propaganda is the only thing that counts.
