SpecialK has a theory as to what "We've got battling green eyeshades" meant:

That at least sounds plausible.

On the night of the debate, just to see, I typed in the URL "www.battlinggreeneyeshades.com." I discovered that it had ALREADY been registered - probably a minute-and-a-half after Dubya uttered it. There's nothing there yet, but I'll bet it's destined to be someone's blog.

I think I'll adopt it as my personal oath - when you stub your toe, yell "Battling Green Eyeshades!"
