Why does the press seem surprised that Rumsfeld is staying? I had ASSUMED that Rumsfeld was saying. You can't screw everything up THAT completely and not have Bush just love you.
I get a little sick of the press narrative: Bush is a just a simple guy, and it's the people around him who are really making the decisions. Bush IS one one of those bad guys. There was NEVER a real conflict between the neocons and the moderates. Bush IS a neocon, and in his first term he appointed a few moderates for purely political reasons.
The press did the same thing with his father: They said that George H.W. Bush was a nice guy, it was Roger Ailes and Lee Atwater who were the attack dogs. Bullshit. George H.W. Bush ran the dirtiest political campaign I had ever seen UNTIL his son came along. And the common thread through all of the dirty politics and the mudslinging and the cynical manipulation isn't the name Ailes or Atwater or Rove. It's the name Bush. It's the OTHER guys who are following orders.
