ITMFA

Good article. Read the whole thing.

President Bush is urging Congress to let the CIA keep using "alternative" interrogation procedures -- which include, according to published accounts, forcing prisoners to stand for 40 hours, depriving them of sleep and use of the "cold cell," in which the prisoner is left naked in a cell kept near 50 degrees and doused with cold water. - Washington Post

Bush's strategy seems to be to behave in such an extremely unacceptable manner that people go into a sort of denial about it, and let him get away with it because dealing with it is just too damned hard. It's not possible that the President of the United States is just an evil, sadistic psychopath, is it? It can't be. So people retreat into dissonance, and pretend the President asking Congress to be allowed to do what Joseph Stalin did is just an acceptable alternative opinion, instead of flat UnAmerican lunacy.

Well, I'll say it: George W. Bush is an evil, sadistic psychopath who should be dragged before the Hague and tried for war crimes.

And the fact that 30% of Americans still support an obviously criminal maniac is a sad, sad commentary on the state of the country.
