Lifetime detention

With no charges

The Bush administration is preparing plans for possible lifetime detention of suspected terrorists, including hundreds whom the government does not have enough evidence to charge in courts, The Washington Post reported Sunday.

Conservatives only PRETEND to be against big government; in reality, they favor a government with unlimited power and no checks on it whatsoever.

And HERE's the problem with the Democrats:

Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), vice chairman of the House intelligence committee who has received classified briefings on the CIA's detainees and interrogation methods, said that given the long-term nature of the detention situation, "I think there should be a public debate about whether the entire system should be secret.

"Well, if you are going to hold people indefinitely, perhaps we should have a debate as to whether you should able to do so in secret."

You shouldn't be suggesting a debate; you should be screaming bloody murder that they are proposing holding people indefinitely at ALL.

THAT'S the problem: the Republicans try doing something totally off the edge, and flat insane. and the Democrats instinct is to COMPROMISE so we get something only PARTIALLY insane.

And things keep going further and further. And they keep going further and further Because the Democrats don't actually try to propose anything GOOD. They just compromise so we get things that aren't QUITE as bad as the Republicans want to make them. For NOW.
