The proposition will prohibit the confinement of certain farm animals in structures or cages that do not allow them to turn around freely, lie down, stand up, and fully extend their limbs. The measure will phase out California’s use of battery cages for layers, veal crates, and sow gestation crates.
Unfortunately, it won't take effect until 2015 (I suppose to give farms time to replace their equipment). But it's something.

While I've been a vegetarian since 1979, it still disturbs me that Californians voted in favor of rights for farm animals, but against rights for gay humans.
Good point. But gay humans are cuddly and cute. Well, not all of them.
